Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s administration extended the states “Pause” restrictions on Monday, December 7th which continues the suspension of in-person instruction at high schools through Dec. 20. This extension of restrictions also causes both middle school as well as high school athletics and clubs to be suspended until that time. The MHSAA Rep Council met yesterday, Wednesday, December 9th and the MHSAA sent out the following regarding the extension period.
- With activities remaining paused until Dec. 20, and that announcement coming less than 48 hours ago, today’s Council meeting was purely informational as members consider next steps for Fall and Winter sports that have been put on hold.
- Executive Director Mark Uyl remains in conversation with representatives of Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s office.
- The Council will convene Dec. 16 to formulate plans for when school sports are allowed to resume activity.
We know there have been questions recently about middle school sports/clubs still being able to continue due to those students being able to get back in the classroom this week. All school sports would fit under the same guidelines until further notice or new guidelines come out at the state level and/or from the MHSAA. We will continue to keep you posted if anything changes. We understand that this has been a very difficult time for many, and many of our students are trying to make sense of it all. Its hard to do. What we do know is that our students need our support right now. If you need support please contact our guidance office 810-591-0132. Our counselors have an open virtual meeting every weekday from 11am – 12pm. You can also email Dave Beamer, Athletic Director at firstname.lastname@example.org with any questions or concerns you may have. We are all in this together and we will get through it together. Take care!!
